Frescoes Arthur Saint-Léon created The Little Humpbacked Horse to the music of Cesare Pugni for the Imperial Ballet (today the Kirov/Maryinsky Ballet). The original ballet which premiered in 1864 was based on a folk tale by the same name written by Russian author, Peter Yershov. Marius Petipa restaged the ballet in 1895. In this excerpt from The Little Humpbacked Horse, the figures are brought to live from painted Frescoes in a palace in central Asia.
