What are KCB dancers doing this summer?

Kansas City Ballet dancers work 35 weeks per year on KCB performances, but during the summers they have time to pursue other passions. Read on to see how some dancers plan to spend the summer months.

Stayce Camparo: This summer I am getting married on May 30th to my boyfriend of 10 years in Santa Barbara, Calif. After that I am coming back to Kansas City and taking a Composition I and Political Science course at JCCC. I will be applying to do the Alonzo King workshop in San Francisco in July but won’t know if I’m accepted until June. I am also getting certified to instruct pilates. It may seem like a lot of stuff, but I like to stay busy. On my down time I will be either gardening or at the gym working out or playing dodge ball.

Kimberly Cowen: I’ll perform with Quixotic at Spencer Theater at UMKC June 19-20 and 25-27 at 8 p.m. Call 816.235.6222 for tickets or buy online at www.quixoticfusion.com.

Matthew Donnell: I’ll be the assistant choreographer for The Sound of Music at The New Theatre Restaurant. I’ll also be teaching ballet and learning to tap.

Nadia Iozzo: So far I plan to perform with Quixotic at the end of June. I will also be doing some guest teaching in Toronto.

Betty Kondo: I’ll be celebrating my first wedding anniversary on June 6th.

Geoffrey Kropp: In June, I will be dancing with Owen/Cox Dance Group. The performance is June 6 with the Bach Aria Soloists. For more information, visit www.owencoxdance.org. And in July, I will be dancing for the National Choreographers Initiative in California. Four choreographers work with 15 or so dancers to create new works. The showcase is July 25 at UC Irvine. Please visit www.nchoreographers.org to learn more.

Marcus Oatis: This summer I will be teaching jazz for Ailey Camp.

Past KCB Dancer Matthew Powell: This summer, I’ll play the role of Baby John in West Side Story which is travelling abroad.

Stefani Schrimpf: Juan and I are having a baby! I think that’s all I’ll have time for!
