Madison Keith

KCB School Student Profile—Madison Keith

At 10 years old, Madison Keith has spent more than half her young life in ballet classes. “I wanted to start dancing, so my parents got me into ballet at 5 years old as a birthday present,” Madison said.

This Northview Elementary School student is currently in Level 3 at Kansas City Ballet School. She believes the most important thing she’s learned so far is to work on her posture. For Madison, dancing makes her feel happy because it’s a chance for her to show what she can do. But, when she grows up she wants to become a veterinarian. She’s really interested in animals.

When asked about the support her family provides, Madison agreed that it was very important. This year her mom volunteered to help sell raffle tickets for the Sugar Plum Fairy Luncheon fundraiser and helped backstage at The Nutcracker. “It makes me feel good to know my mom is there to help other kids. I get to interact with her and show her what I do,” Madison said.

As part of The Nutcracker cast for the past four years, she appreciates dancing alongside the Company dancers. Madison learned about improvisation this year during one performance of the party scene. “There was a performance when my petty coat fell down,” Madison said. “We were in the middle of Grandfather’s dance and Drosselmeyer saw it on the floor and told me to step out of it. We kicked it to the side, under the stairs,” she said. The show must go on!

We asked Madison what she would like to tell her classmates about KCBS. Here’s what she said. “Everyone is really supportive, they tell you to not be afraid to ask questions, and they really help you improve.”
